Summary

Six summers to fall in love。 One moment to fall apart。 A weekend to get it right。

They say you can never go home again, and for Persephone Fraser, ever since she made the biggest mistake of her life a decade ago, that has felt too true。 Instead of glittering summers on the lakeshore of her childhood, she spends them in a stylish apartment in the city, going out with friends, and keeping everyone a safe distance from her heart。

Until she receives the call that sends her racing back to Barry’s Bay and into the orbit of Sam Florek—the man she never thought she’d have to live without。

For six summers, through hazy afternoons on the water and warm summer nights working in his family’s restaurant and curling up together with books—medical textbooks for him and work-in-progress horror short stories for her—Percy and Sam had been inseparable。 Eventually that friendship turned into something breathtakingly more, before it fell spectacularly apart。

When Percy returns to the lake for Sam’s mother’s funeral, their connection is as undeniable as it had always been。 But until Percy can confront the decisions she made and the years she’s spent punishing herself for them, they’ll never know whether their love might be bigger than the biggest mistakes of their past。

Told over the course of six years and one weekend, Every Summer After is a big, sweeping nostalgic look at love and the people and choices that mark us forever。

Hated the characters, no chemistry, and they acted like children rather than adults。

I don’t even know where to start。 This is my very first review。 I have read 56 books so far this year and this one is in my top 10。 I loved this book。 The characters, the writing style, all of it。 FANTASTIC for a debut novel。 Can’t wait to read future publications from this author!

I’m not going to lie, after I had finished reading the blurb it didn’t grab my attention。 But after seeing many people rave about it on social media I thought I’d give it a go。 Let me tell you it didn’t disappoint!Carley Fortunes writing was amazing she

I knew the second I saw this book on the shelf and picked it up that it was calling me。 i’m so glad I did because it has now become one of my absolute favorite reads yet。。 This book made me feel so many emotions all at once & I did not think I could love a book this much!! Nearly sobbing by the end。

The main girl and her family are so annoying from the very first page。 She also had no justification for doing what she did。 Never trust a girl who says she just doesn’t have female friends。 I have no idea why authors continually write the most unlikable female leads。

MaKenna Tonery

Absolutely loved this book!!

This was so incredibly beautiful。 I have no words that can even come close to describing all the emotions this book made me feel。

Emily Williamson

Hell of a book for her first release。 This was amazing。 So nostalgic。 Loved。

I really enjoyed the alternating between past and present love story! I also loved the second chance love story for Sam and Percey! I did think that some of their resistance was frivolous! This reminded me of Hildebrands 28 summers which I absolutely loved! This is the perfect summer read and had me reminiscing of my childhood summers spent on the lakes of Wisconsin!

3。5 StarsI liked the premise, the setting, and I even liked the writing style。 It was told in a present/past format as their backstories were slowly revealed while bringing the characters into the present。 I would have liked the story more if some of the scenes in the past felt more authentic。 There were a few times the characters spoke with dialogue that wasn’t indicative of their young age。 It really only happened at their youngest。 After that, I was believing their story and romance。 I wish t 3。5 StarsI liked the premise, the setting, and I even liked the writing style。 It was told in a present/past format as their backstories were slowly revealed while bringing the characters into the present。 I would have liked the story more if some of the scenes in the past felt more authentic。 There were a few times the characters spoke with dialogue that wasn’t indicative of their young age。 It really only happened at their youngest。 After that, I was believing their story and romance。 I wish the ending was a little less rushed, though。 Their was a 13 year separation between the love interests and (view spoiler)[it was hard to believe that within a week they were able to get past all the hurt and misunderstandings in order to be together again。 (hide spoiler)] Other than that, I found it an easy and compelling read and would consider reading this debut author’s future books。 。。。more

4 stars for the book itself + 0。5 stars because there was a character with my name which I have never seen before。This book reminds me a lot of Love and Other Words, The Summer I Turned Pretty, and kind of Beach Read。 We have our main character Persephone who in present time, gets a call from someone she hasn’t talked to in 12 years telling her that someone who meant something to her just passed away。 For the first time in 12 years, she goes back to the small lake town where her family spent man 4 stars for the book itself + 0。5 stars because there was a character with my name which I have never seen before。This book reminds me a lot of Love and Other Words, The Summer I Turned Pretty, and kind of Beach Read。 We have our main character Persephone who in present time, gets a call from someone she hasn’t talked to in 12 years telling her that someone who meant something to her just passed away。 For the first time in 12 years, she goes back to the small lake town where her family spent many summers, where she met her best friend, the boy she fell in love with, and where it all went wrong。 This story is told in alternate present and past chapters where we start at the beginning of Percy’s trips to the cottage, see how she met Sam and Charlie, and how she group up with them。 And in the present time, we see all three of them reuniting and slowly find out what happened all those years ago。I really enjoyed this story, it was very cute and the relationship was built up well。 I think Carley Fortune did a really good job with keeping the characters and the events realistic to how old they were at the time。 And age is pretty important since the story starts when they’re 13 and is told till when they’re 30。 And the way they act, the stuff that happens only works because it’s appropriate for the age they were。I really liked Percy and Sam’s characters from the very start。 Both of them were a little awkward but really came out of their shell when they were with each other。 Even as an adult, I could empathize with Percy and her anxiety and guilt, why she acted the way she did。 I liked that she didn’t make excuses for herself, she wasn’t trying to be over dramatic - she’s someone who was very human and I wanted to be her friend。 Sam was the most wholesome person ever, so kind and thoughtful, and very clearly in love with Percy。 Again, he wasn’t perfect but I think that’s what made him more realistic。 I loved their friendship when they met, it gave off very genuine best friend vibes。 Their relationship made sense。The writing was fantastic, I really enjoyed the descriptions of the lake, the shore, the town, etc。 It made me feel/ wish like I was there。 The “plot twist” if you want to call it that of what happened all those years ago was maybe not my favorite, but it was definitely surprising。 And it made sense why the events that followed did so。 In conclusion, this is a great vacation book and a very cute romance。 Also there’s a character with my name so it’s worth reading just for that。 。。。more

i mean, i saw this book a lot for the past few weeks, but YOU DOING TALK ABOUT IT ENOUGH。and i will say it right from the beginning: this book is so similar to “the summer i turned pretty”。 i can bet on it。 but it’s hotter and definitely mature story。i will give the book my first place at the pedestal of the hottest books i’ve read in a long while。 you know, we read a lot of smut nowadays, but this one is sensual。 i will be forever fan of authors, who can write sex and sexual tension so good。

5 stars isn’t enough… I cried tears reading this book that I haven’t cried for a book in a long long time。 It is so beautifully written, and I fell in love with all the characters so deeply。 I’m finding it hard to move on from this book。 Exquisite

This book is damn near perfection。 I was eagerly anticipating this book because it is right in my wheelhouse: childhood friends to lovers, an epic story told over time。 Sam and Percy’s connection is so intense I could not stop thinking about them。 I read this book for 3 1/2 hours past my bedtime, put it down to try to sleep and had to pick it back up to see how it all ended。This book gave me all the feels from the very beginning。 It is simple in its structure and plot, but the character developm This book is damn near perfection。 I was eagerly anticipating this book because it is right in my wheelhouse: childhood friends to lovers, an epic story told over time。 Sam and Percy’s connection is so intense I could not stop thinking about them。 I read this book for 3 1/2 hours past my bedtime, put it down to try to sleep and had to pick it back up to see how it all ended。This book gave me all the feels from the very beginning。 It is simple in its structure and plot, but the character development is beautiful。 Major kudos to Carley Fortune for such a stunning debut。 Comparable books I also loved:💜 Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren💜 The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo 。。。more

This is one of those soul-mates for life type romances 🥺 I think it’s one of my favourite romance novels of all time now!! It was the perfect combination, filled with emotional scenes, humour & suspense。 You’re left wondering what really happened that summer that led to this total fall-out between Persy and Sam。 The summer chapters that described them growing up were especially my fave❤️ & the fact that it’s a Canadian novel that’s set in places that I recognize, was there cherry on top。 5 stars This is one of those soul-mates for life type romances 🥺 I think it’s one of my favourite romance novels of all time now!! Wow wow wow! A masterpiece indeed。 I knew within the first couple of chapters that this was going to be a top read for me and boyyy was I right。 I completely DEVOURED this book。 It was so beautifully written。❤️

Serendy

I liked this book a lot but wanted to explore Charlie’s character a bit more。 I think that would’ve added more depth to the book, and for once, more of a love triangle would’ve been appreciated。 I think that’s what it needed to make everything that happened more believable and understandable。

I couldn’t put this down and I was anxious when I had to。 I think the author did a great job building that suspense of what the heck broke the couple apart。
